Thought On This Chapter
1TIM 6:1 Let as many servants as are under the yoke
count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his
doctrine be not blasphemed.
In Old Testament times a man who went broke could sell
himself as a servant for a certain number of years. We don't really have
anything today that is exactly the same. The closest thing we have is an
employee and his employer. Our work relationship today is different than
it was then. However, the underlying principal mentioned in verse one is
the same, and it does apply to us today.
The servant was to treat their master with proper
respect. They were to count their own masters worthy of all honour.
We should treat our employers with respect also. Because of them we have a
job and are able to pay our bills. But another more important reason is
given. "that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed."
We are to not keep our Christianity in a closet.
Our employers should know that we are Christians. Our behavior and the way
we treat our employers therefore reflects upon our Saviour. If we treat
our employers badly, then the name of God will be blasphemed. The employer
will not think much of our God and His teachings if we are jerks. If we
have proper respect for our employers, they might still not get saved, but we
will honor our Lord.
Thought On This Chapter
1TIM 6:7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it
is certain we can carry nothing out.
Hence the saying, You can't take it with you.
Psalm 49 talks about this very thing.
Psa 49:6 They that trust in their wealth, and boast
themselves in the multitude of their riches;
Psa 49:7 None [of them] can by any means redeem his
brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:
Psa 49:8 (For the redemption of their soul [is]
precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)
Psa 49:10 For he seeth [that] wise men die, likewise
the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.
Psa 49:11 Their inward thought [is, that] their houses
[shall continue] for ever, [and] their dwelling places to all generations; they
call [their] lands after their own names.
Psa 49:12 Nevertheless man [being] in honour abideth
not: he is like the beasts [that] perish.
Psa 49:13 This their way [is] their folly: yet their
posterity approve their sayings. Selah.
Man struggles and pursues wealth. They puff
themselves up and name their lands after their own names. But yet their
way is folly and all men will die. They money will do them no good when
they die, they can't take it with them and they can't buy salvation (verse 7).
They don't realize that it is not money that is precious but it is the
redemption of their soul that is precious (verse 8).
Psa 49:15 But God will redeem my soul from the power of
the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.
Can you claim verse 15? Has God redeemed your
soul? Does the grave have no power over you? Have you accepted Jesus
as your Saviour? Or are you pursuing something that you will not be able
to take with you? That in the end will not matter in the least.

1TIM 6:1 Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.
1TIM 6:2 And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.
1TIM 6:3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
1TIM 6:4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
1TIM 6:5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
1TIM 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
1TIM 6:7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
1TIM 6:8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
1TIM 6:9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
1TIM 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
1TIM 6:11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
1TIM 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
1TIM 6:13 I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;
1TIM 6:14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:
1TIM 6:15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;
1TIM 6:16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.
1TIM 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
1TIM 6:18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;
1TIM 6:19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
1TIM 6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
1TIM 6:21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.

1TIM 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
1TIM 6:7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it
is certain we can carry nothing out.
O how we all need reminded of this truth from time to
time! It is godliness with contentment that is great gain, and not money.
A big house is not great gain. A new boat is not great gain. Why?
Because in the end they will rot. The things of this world are not great
gain because you cannot take them with you. You only have them for a very
short time. Really for no time at all in comparison to eternity.
You cannot take the things of this world with you.
Verse 7 says, "It is certain we can carry nothing out." How many pharaohs
have gotten buried with all their stuff. People were even killed to
keep the burying place secret so no one would take their stuff before they got
it to the other side. And all for nothing because you cannot carry
anything out of this world.
We are to be content with what we have and we are to
set our affections on things above.
Col 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on
things on the earth.
