The Hoover Dam

If you look closely you will see 4 towers on the dam. The closest one to the camera is in Arizona and contains the womens bathroom. The furtherst one away is in Nevada and contains the men's bathroom. Women have to go to Arizona and the men to Nevada. The middle two are the original elevators.

Visitor's center

They made this new visitors center. The circular cement tower built into the cliff. Look close and you can see people standing on the top of it.

It's a long way down!

Look close and you can see cars down there. How do they get them down there? If you look at all the pictures, you will see the answer.

The water level is very low.

The spillway. It has not seen water flow over it for almost 3 decades.

The water intake towers for the generators

Huge water pipe.

This pipe is carrying the water to the generators. The floor shakes with the vibration of so much water moving under great pressure.

When you go down the new elevators you do not come down inside the dam.

This is the Nevada side's generator room.

The small generator in the floor is what provides the electricity for the dam.

That is a 300 ton crane that spans the generator room. Some of the parts for the generators weigh more than 300 tons.

If you look close you will see they have 2 cranes. They can be hooked together to lift 600 tons.

A fancy hallway inside the dam

This tunnel is for air venalation. The grate at the end is on the surface of the dam.

This tunnel drops 180 feet to the lower tunnels. It is for air supply.

Looking out the air shaft.

There is the road. That is how they get cars down there.

New Bridge

It can take up to 4 hours to drive across the Hoover Dam. That will be a thing of the past when they get the new bridge finished.

Tunnels everywhere

More tunnels. At this point I had no idea where I was inside the dam.

The dam does leak.

This tunnel goes down to a collection pool that they use to collect and pump out water that leaks into the dam.

Strong water current where the water comes out of the generators

The sun was setting when we got out of the tour.

Can you spot the wopper? He is huge. Where is my fishing pole.

They have an amazing crane system that they are using to build the new bridge.
