The Law and Sin

1 The law was NOT given to justify us.

Rom 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law [is] the knowledge of sin.

Gal 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, [it is] evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

The law requires 100 percent compliance

Jam 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one [point], he is guilty of all.

One mess up is all it takes. One little white lie, one in-pure thought, coveting something that is not yours one time, even if it is for a moment, and you have offended in one point and are guilty of all. The law cannot save. Living by the rules cannot save because the rules require 100 percent compliance all the time. And your broke the rules before you ever got out of diapers.

2 The law was given to give us knowledge of what sin is.

Rom 7:7 What shall we say then? [Is] the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

This verse teaches that if it was not for the law that we would not have know what sin was.

3 The law was given to show the exceeding sinfulness of sin.

Rom 7:13 Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.

4 The law was given to bring us to Christ.

Gal 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster [to bring us] unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

The law was not given to save man, for none can keep the law. The law was given as a schoolmaster. Teaching us that we are sinners and are in need of a savior.

Gal 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed [is] every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. If you have not continued in ALL things that are written in the book of the law, then you are cursed.

Gal 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed [is] every one that hangeth on a tree:

But Christ came and went to the cross and was made a curse for us. He was cursed for you and for me. He took our curse upon Himself. All you have to do is accept what He did on the cross for you, pray to God, confess that you are a sinner, and ask Him to save you.
