Lesson One on The Trinity – There is One God

The Old Testament Scriptures are very clear that there is only One God

Deu 4:35  Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the LORD he [is] God; [there is] none else beside him.

Deu 4:39  Know therefore this day, and consider [it] in thine heart, that the LORD he [is] God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: [there is] none else.

Deu 6:4  Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God [is] one LORD:

1Sa 2:2  [There is] none holy as the LORD: for [there is] none beside thee: neither [is there] any rock like our God.

2Sa 7:22  Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for [there is] none like thee, neither [is there any] God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

1Ki 8:60  That all the people of the earth may know that the LORD [is] God, [and that there is] none else.

2Ki 19:15  And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD God of Israel, which dwellest [between] the cherubims, thou art the God, [even] thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth.

Neh 9:6  Thou, [even] thou, [art] LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all [things] that [are] therein, the seas, and all that [is] therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.

Psa 86:10  For thou [art] great, and doest wondrous things: thou [art] God alone.

Isa 44:6  Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I [am] the first, and I [am] the last; and beside me [there is] no God.

Isa 44:8  Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared [it]? ye [are] even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, [there is] no God; I know not [any].

Isa 45:22  Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I [am] God, and [there is] none else.

Joe 2:27  And ye shall know that I [am] in the midst of Israel, and [that] I [am] the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.

Zec 14:9  And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.

Mar 12:29  And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments [is], Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

According to God’s law only two witnesses are enough to establish a matter.  Two verses would have been sufficient.  But God told us over and over and over in the Old Testament.  Even the 1st commandment out of the Ten Commandments tells us that we are to have only one God.

Exo 20:3  Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

This same theme is picked up in the New Testament.

1Co 8:4  As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol [is] nothing in the world, and that [there is] none other God but one.

1Co 8:6  But to us [there is but] one God, the Father, of whom [are] all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom [are] all things, and we by him.

Gal 3:20  Now a mediator is not [a mediator] of one, but God is one.

Eph 4:5  One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

Eph 4:6  One God and Father of all, who [is] above all, and through all, and in you all.

1Ti 2:5  For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

This Truth has practical ramifications.

We should never overlook anything that God put in the Bible.  But we should pay special attention when God put something in the Bible over and over and over and over again.  The fact that there is only one God is more than just a simple theological fact.  If you get a hold of this concept, it will change the way you think and live.  Let me give you just one example.

Since there is only one God, then He must be the God of all.

Rom 3:29  [Is he] the God of the Jews only? [is he] not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:

He is the God of the Jews and He is the God of the Gentiles.  Gentiles is just a term that means everyone that is not a Jew.  So Jews and Gentiles equals everyone.  The one and only God is the God of everyone.  The Jews liked to look down on the Gentiles.  Back then they considered them as dogs.  And the Bible is saying hold on.  Wait just a minute.  Don’t you realize that your God is also their God?   If you have a prejudice against another type of human, you need to stop and ponder the impact of this.  They have the same God that you do.  The same God that created the black the brown, the yellow, the white and the red, is the same God that created you.  The same God that loves you is the same God that loves them.  How dare you hate them or look down on someone else who God created and loves just because they look different.  How different the world would be if people would just get a hold of this simple truth.  That there is only one God and He is the God of everybody.
