General Information About the Book of Psalms.
The Key verse is Psalm 95:1 O come, let us sing
unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.
The book of Psalms is the only inspired Hymn book.
It was used as a Hymn book by ancient Israel and N.T.
Churches.
Psalms has been used for devotions, prayer, and praise
by believers down through the centuries.
The book of Psalms teaches us that prayer, praise,
intercession and confession are all a part of true worship.
The book of Psalms gives us real life examples that we can
relate to of Biblical truth. A great example of this is how Psalm 51 is a
practical example of 1 John 1:8-9.

Thought on This Chapter In this chapter you have
a vivid comparison between two types of men. The first type of man is
blessed for not walking in the counsel of the ungodly. This applies to us
today. If you follow the advice of the ungodly, there will be
consequences. God will not bless following wicked counsel, but He will
bless you for turning away from the counsel of the ungodly.
The first type of man loves the Word of God. He delights in the Bible.
This type of man does not read the Bible out of some sense of duty.
Instead he reads it because he loves God's Word. Not only does he read it
but he meditates upon it night and day. This type
of man is likened to a tree that is planted by the rivers of water. A tree
has deep roots. This type of man is not easy to uproot. He will not
follow every wind of doctrine. He is stable. This tree is said to be
planted by the rivers of water. The picture here is that he will always
have plenty of nourishment. He will not be weakened by not getting enough
water. This type of man is spiritually strong and he will not wither, and
he will bear fruit. The first type of man is one that is walking close to
God and he receives blessings for it. The second type of
man is the opposite. The ungodly are not likened to a tree. Instead
they are likened to chaff. Chaff is what the wind blows away when they are
thrashing wheat. They have no stability. They have no root, no
foundation. They can be here today and gone tomorrow. They also have
consequences for living this way. They will not stand in the judgment.
They will perish. We have before us two opposite
types of lives and both will have consequences. The life that walks with
God vs. the ungodly. The first loves the Word of God, is blessed, bears
fruit, and prospers. The second only brings judgment.
Which life is better? There can be no doubt, the first life is better for
this life right now and for all eternity. |
