Answer to: Should Christians be involved in Santa?
Santa is the world’s replacement for Jesus. Satan does not want the attention to go to Jesus so he supplies a replacement to receive that attention. Santa Clause is a distraction to the real reason for the season. He provides someone else where all the attention can be focused. Someone who has many of the same qualities.
And have you ever thought about the attributes of Santa?
Santa is said to know all. He knows who is naughty or nice. You tell a kid that Santa knows everything that you have done and that he knows your thoughts.
I am sorry but only God knows all. Giving the attribute of knowing all to Santa is not Christian. All-knowing is an attribute of Jesus not of Santa. Santa is given the power to hand out rewards based on your life. This is also giving Santa the power to judge, which also belongs to God.
Santa is said to be able to be everywhere in one night. This is the attribute of being all-present. I am sorry but only God can be everywhere at once. Giving the attribute to Santa is not Christian.
Santa is said to be able to enter every locked house in the world. He is said to be able to change the size of chimney or of his body to fit thru them. He is said to be able to just pass thru the wall or make a door just for him. Santa is given the attribute of being all-powerful. Being all powerful is an attribute that belongs to God.
Santa is said to have a sack that never runs empty of toys. Santa is presented as the great provider. He is said to be able to provide not just for you but also for everyone. This is not Christian. God is the great provider.
Santa is said to never die. And not just Santa but his workers. The elves, and the reindeer. Santa makes sure that they all live forever. Santa does not have the power of eternal life.
Like it or not, get mad at me or not, the truth is that Santa is a replacement figure provided by the world to get the focus off of Christ. I understand the lost world getting involved in Santa. They don’t want to think about Christ and His great gift. But Christians should know better.
I was lost when my kids were little. But I never did think it was right to lie to my kids. I told them from day one that Santa was a lie. Telling kids that there is a magical creature called Santa that is all knowing, all powerful, and all present is wrong. It is wrong to point your kids to trust in the great provider Santa when you should be pointing them to Jesus who is the only one who can truly provide.
Here is what sometimes happens. You tell them later that there is someone who is all-powerful, all-knowing, and all present. You tell them of someone who knows your every deed and thought. And this someone will judge you on it. He has the ability to give you great rewards and not just you. He has the power to give great rewards to everyone in the whole world. You tell them that this person never dies. You tell them of a great provider named Jesus who can give eternal life. (Did you think I was talking about Santa?) And they say that sounds familiar. Oh yea. That is what you told me about Santa and you lied. I trusted you then and got my heart broke.
I have a better idea. As Christians we should be honest with our children and grandchildren. We should use the time of Christmas to point them to Christ and not to the world’s replacement for the season.
As Christians we need to keep Christ in Christmas. Jesus is the reason for the season. Christians should not lie to their children. Christians should not be involved in Santa.
